Microfluidic engineering of materials

This (highly) subjective lecture will first outline a few basic things about microfluidics: microfabrication, Stokes flow, droplets, mass transport… In a second part, I will review some examples of fabrication of materials, from the synthesis of nano-objects to the fabrication micro-materials (fiber, /micro-particles…), while highlighting how microfluidics provides original conditions for the engineering of possibly smart materials.

10:30 - 11:00

Coffee break

Wetting

Surface tension, wetting, capillarity and (liquid-gas) nucleation.

12:30 - 13:30

SOCIAL PROGRAM

06/09 BELGIAN BEER-TASTING AT THE CONFERENCE VENUE

The official tourism website of Brussels indicates more than 100 links related to Belgian beer. Discover them here, and taste some of them during the MicroMAST conference.

07/09 GALA DINNER AT THE ATOMIUM

A seminal totem in the Brussels skyline; neither tower, nor pyramid, a little bit cubic, a little bit spherical, half-way between sculpture and architecture, a relic of the past with a determinedly futuristic look, museum and exhibition centre; The dinner will take place in the « Ilya Prigogine » sphere, so called as a tribute to the Belgian 1977 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry.
